Kadir van Lohuizen

The boat to Timbuctu Posted by Hello

Wiggers and Van Lohuizen are photographers who are known for their involvement with Africa. For years now they have been spending considerable time there, and both have made extensive reportages on the continent.

Van Lohuizen produced a journalistic picture report on life on and along the Niger River. This river, with a length of 4200 kilometres, is the lifeline for the whole region. Without the Niger this whole region could be written off as dead. The river provides drinking water for the population, and at the same time is the most important traffic route of the Sahara; most places along it can only be reached by boat. Van Lohuizen travelled on the river for two months, to produce an image of the proud river-dwellers who live and work on the Niger.
