Christer Strömholm

Sin titulo Posted by Hello

Strömholm (1918) has been one of Scandinavia's leading photographers since the 1950-ies. His work has seriously contributed to the development of photography as independent art form in Europe. He developed a photographic language similar to existentialism. Recurring themes in his work are graffiti, prostitution and rituals of death, although he is also interested in portrait photography. Strömholm shows a part of society that usually remains hidden, the kind of lives that many people are not aware of, or even want to be aware of. The photos offer sadness, the irrevocability of life and the omnipresence of death. In addition, Strömholm is fascinated by the mysteries of photography itself. A simple press of a button transforms the three dimensional world into a two-dimensional photo; a flat overwhelming surface that can evoke an abundance of emotions in the viewer.
