Galería/ Claudio Abate


Claudio Abate was born in 1943 in Rome in a family of artists and brought up in the heart of the gallery district in Rome. Abate got his first camera at the age of twelve. At sixteen he was working for a press service agency and at eighteen he was assistant to Eric Lessing, Life Magazine and Magnum photographer. With this remarkable training, Abate began creating his own work, photographing the avant-garde art movements of the 60’s and 70’s in Rome: Arte Povera, Minimalism, Conceptual Art, Body Art, Narrative Art, theatrical and dance events. Among his most important publications are: Germano Celant, Arte Povera, and Album,1968-1971. He also works for important magazines such as “Sipario”, “Domus”, “Carte Segrète”, “Metro” and “Flash Art”. He now lives and works in Rome.
