Exaltation-Images of religion and death.

Desiree Dolron (The Netherlands, b. 1963) worked for nearly ten years on a project about religious gatherings and festivals in which self-mutilation and ecstasy play a large role. Last year she published a remarkable book about them, "Exaltation - Images of Religion and Death," with work made in India, North Africa and Asia. Her presentation is a selection from the book: photographs of people on a journey to deliverance from their own body and self-consciousness.
